Chaos

I discovered today there are a couple of guys in our IT department who play Dungeons & Dragons, and have spent this afternoon trying to convince me to join them. Not really my kind of thing but their passion was definitely enjoyable.

They were trying to decide what alignment I would be. I looked at them very blankly because quite frankly, I didn’t have a clue. Possibly they were speaking Klingon…

But no, it seems your character’s alignment is central to a D&D character’s personality. D&D uses two measures to determine a specific character’s ethical and moral attitudes and behaviour.

The moral axis has three positions: good, neutral and evil. Good characters generally care about the welfare of others. Neutral people generally care about their own welfare. Evil people generally seek to harm the others’ welfare.

The ethical axis has three positions as well: lawful, neutral, and chaotic. Lawful people generally follow the social rules as they understand them. Neutral people follow those rules find convenient or obviously necessary. And chaotic people seek to upset the social order and either institute change, or simply create anarchy.

For some reason I actually agreed to take this… personality test type thing that would tell them about my character’s view of right and wrong.
And the survey said:
Chaotic Good

A chaotic good character acts as his conscience directs him with little regard for what others expect of him. He makes his own way, but he’s kind and benevolent. He believes in goodness and right but has little use for laws and regulations. He hates it when people try to intimidate others and tell them what to do. He follows his own moral compass, which, although good, may not agree with that of society. Chaotic good is the best alignment you can be because it combines a good heart with a free spirit.

Sounds pretty accurate, actually. Although you still won’t find me playing Dungeons & Dragons! πŸ˜‰

Reality leaves a lot to the imagination

Today has been a day of lists. Sometimes I’m able to organise myself, sometimes I need to write a to-do list… and some days I need multiple ones. Today has definitely been one of the latter. Between going on holiday with Jade Rachel earlier in the month and the long weekend we’ve just had for Easter I’ve been feeling more than a little discombobulated.

I am now feeling a litle accomplished so I’m taking a moment to celebrate a couple of small victories. Go me!

I still need to chase a couple of content writers. Deadline is Thursday and I’ve heard nothing from them. Feeling a little concerned.

I would love to go to the cinema. I want to see Batman Vs Superman. As does Jade Rachel so I’m thinking date night (if we can get a babysitter). Jade Rachel and Caden Bryce also want to see Zootopia.
I’m really hoping superheroes win here!

I need to do laundry. I hate doing laundry. It’s probably my least favourite chore. I want to be able to pay for someone to do it for me. That would be a wonderful luxury.

A Day in the Life: February 2016

I think I have an ‘About Me’ page that I’m pretty pleased with. Thank you, all, for your tips and advice. It was very much appreciated.
Please do let me know what you think – all constructive criticism welcomed πŸ™‚

Now, on with the post:
ADITL-Feb2016A Day in the Life is a monthly link up ran by Georgie. On one day each month you are invited to summarise your day, using the prompts provided if you want.

What did you wear today?
It was a work day, so a pair of red wide-leg trousers, matching blazer and a black wrap blouser. Now that I’m home, I’m in a khaki tuni and black skinny jeans.

What made you laugh?
Caden Bryce, just being himself. He wanders up to me, sits down and looks at me very seriously before asking me if I wanted to know what he was thinking about. I told him yes. Then he looked all sad and told me he’d forgotten what he was going to say.

TIL (Today I Learned)
HTML. Or, at least, I started learning it. Using a wordpress template is all wel and good but I figured it would be nice to be able to do more than just bolding and italics. I’ve started a free online course at https://www.codecademy.com/

The weather
Right now it is 7C and a little cloudy, but dry. It’s been like this most of today.

Four People I Encountered Today

Jade Rachel
Well of course my wife is going to be on the list. She woke me up this morning with a lovely mug of steaming hot sweet black coffee. Could life get any better? ♥

Caden Bryce
Our sweet little boy. He’s been sick this last week, a really bad cold and he’s been very clingy. He hasn’t left me alone since I got home from work. This is not a complaint!

Aaron
One of the IT guys at work. I was having issues with connecting to our internal network and he came and fixed it. Sweet kid, and always has sweets/chocolate/cookies to share with everyone! πŸ™‚

Emma
Emma is a young homeless girl who I always see at the tube station. I would say she’s about mid-twenties and has a border collie. I buy her breakfast and some dog food every day – always make sure she has blankets/gloves/hat when it’s cold, an umbrella/coat when it’s rainign.

Who am I?

I’ve had this blank ‘about me’ page open all morning with the cursor flashing at me but I haven’t been able to get any further than Hi, I’m Eireann. That’s usually all I say to start with. I’ve never really sat down to introduce myself at length before. I can tell you why you should hire me, but that’s not really appropriate here.

I then decided to do what all self-respecting people do when they need to do something they don’t know how to do. I asked Google. But Google just wanted to tell me about how to get paid for blogging, or how to write a professional about me page for a corporate site. Again, not really my intention here.

Google was, however, very insistent that this page is very important and should be interesting, original, unique.
So, I shouldn’t just go

Hi, I’m Eireann. I’m 40 years old and I live in London.
I’ve been married to Jade Rachel since March 2015 and we have two children Regan and Caden Bryce.
I have a twin brother called Brody.
I work as a Graphic Designer for Flight Centre, I have a BA (Hons) Fine Art & History of Art and an MA Digital Arts (Visual Arts)
I believe in God. I drink too much coffee (and vodka) and eat too much take out. I support Arsenal FC, I love Disney movies, my favourite band is The Beatles and my favourite movie is Casablanca

You would think as an artistic/creative type this would be easy. I’m not a ‘words’ person though!
